Doha,Qatar - September 02, 2026 : The State of Qatar has strongly condemned the Islamic Republic of Iran's targeting of the Saudi tanker Sidr while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, an attack that resulted in fatalities among the tanker's crew. Qatar described the incident as a blatant violation of international law and freedom of maritime navigation, as well as a flagrant breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.
Ministry Calls for Immediate Reopening of the Strait
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar's categorical rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of exerting pressure. The Ministry called for the strait to be reopened unconditionally, stressing that freedom of navigation through the vital waterway is a non-negotiable, established principle. It warned that the continued closure of the strait puts the vital interests of regional countries and the global economy at serious risk.
Qatar Urges End to Attacks, Reaffirms Solidarity with Saudi Arabia
The Ministry stressed the need to halt Iran's unjustified attacks on the property of sisterly nations, while reaffirming Qatar's full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for any measures the Kingdom takes to safeguard its assets.
